Follow these five steps for a smooth rental from search to move-in.
Finding the right space takes a few minutes — the filters do the heavy lifting.
A quick message before booking saves misunderstandings later.
A quick check on day one protects you if anything comes up later.
Respecting the agreed terms keeps the rental running smoothly for everyone.
Month-to-month is mostly hands-off once you're set up.
Most rentals go smoothly. Here's what to do if something comes up.
Send a follow-up message through the platform first — it's often just a delayed reply. If there's still no response and you have a time-sensitive need, contact SpaceNextDoor support and we'll help coordinate access or next steps. Don't attempt to force entry or work around the agreed access method.
If you notice a material difference from what was listed — a hazard that wasn't disclosed, a change in access, anything affecting whether the space works for your stored items — document it with photos and report it through the platform within 7 days of move-in. You may be entitled to end the booking and receive a refund for the affected period.
Cancel any time from your dashboard. Your access and responsibility for the space continue through the end of your current billing period — there's no early-termination penalty, but you won't get a refund for that final period. Make sure to remove all your items before it ends.
Document the damage with photos and report it through the platform as soon as you notice it. Hosts are responsible for damage they cause to your stored items. If you added a Protection Plan at checkout, that may also apply — check your plan details for what's covered.
Check the storage tips page and your listing's specific rules first — most restrictions are listed upfront. If you're still unsure whether something's allowed, message your host or contact SpaceNextDoor support before you move it in, not after.
Your monthly charge should match what's shown on your listing and booking confirmation. If something looks wrong — a duplicate charge, an unexpected amount — contact SpaceNextDoor support with your booking details before disputing the charge with your bank; a direct chargeback can complicate or delay resolving the issue.
